Bleach London had an idea to provide some ‘theatre’ in their Soho salon. Alex, the founder, had the idea for an in-store factory/science lab, where their customers could choose their hair colour, and then one of the Bleach London team would select the component dyes and using the mixing machine to create it. Once finished, they would hand over a bottle of uniquely mixed washable hair dye to the customer.
We made the hair dye dispenser units resemble bar optics. By pushing up on the dispenser, a 30ml dose of dye would be dispensed in the bottle. The skill of the salon staff is knowing which ones mix to make the selected colour. Conditioner is then added to the dye, and the bottle placed in the mixer. This shakes the dye and conditioner together. This has been one of our most enjoyable projects as the client is full of new ideas and welcomed suggestions and built on them, and is really supportive and fun. While making the machine Bleach asked if we could turn a simple press into a “glitter make up” press. No problem, but Pete and Tony our engineers in the machine shop still have glitter turning up.
We have gone on to make a second set which is being installed in Selfridges London as part of a bigger bleach concession.
