Bleach London’s hair styling trend; ‘hair tapestry’ went viral in the summer of 2015 as an exciting new festival look. They contacted us with the idea to develop a hair tapestry kit with a tool to make the process easier for everyone to try themselves. The product had to appeal to kids whilst standing apart from generic hair braiding kits.
We started by trying the process ourselves and creating simple improvised test rigs to find the best solution. Without a tool it was very tricky to hold each strand of hair still and stop individual hairs from crossing over. The key was to grip the hair with foam whilst coming through it, from there we managed to spread the hair into a fixed loop in a single motion. But Hairmoji is more than just a means to an end, we loved the idea of making the tool double as a fun, quirky character that could be displayed on a shelf rather than shoved back into its box like most hair tools.
Hairmoji now makes a cool style trend simple and accessible to all whilst also looking pretty cute! The Hairmoji kit launched in a pop-up shop in central London in 2017 to great excitement and is now selling online and in-store.
