Inner Growth is an indoor vertical hydroponic system that can also be used as a meditation altar. The system is designed to grow vegetables and cooking herbs from seeds to harvest using hydroponics.
Our task was to design a unique and stylish set-up that will look great in the home and be able to contain all the necessary equipment for the plants to grow. The hydroponics alter also needed to incorporate a seat to allow comfort for prayer in front of the plant life and waterfall.
Having understood the key requirements of a hydroponic system, through conversations with multiple experts, we created a range of design concepts that would meet the requirements of the client and the intended market.
The chosen design included a removable prayer stool and was constructed using high-grade Birch plywood and brushed stainless steel. There would be a series of waterpipes carrying aerated water and timed lights to stimulate growth throughout the day. The concept was then developed further using 3d design software allowing us to determine where all the electrical & water componentry would be located – a pairing that is known not to mix well! We worked with manufacturers to ensure the highest quality for our first prototype with an eye on techniques for use with larger batch production.
The requirement was to produce a high-quality prototype that not only looks great but functions as a complete hydroponic system, which could be used to gain market feedback and subsequent funding. The product and system met all the requirements of the initial brief, which received very positive feedback from both client and the market.
