Spencer Turner knows a lot about what happens when a gas turns from a liquid to a solid. He approached us to take his concept of creating an electric current sufficient to charge a phone or tablet when burning liquid butane gas whilst cooking on a camp stove.
When the gas changes state there is a change of temperature. The canister gets very cold as the gas is released whilst up where the gas is burnt it gets very hot. Using this differential across a Thermal Electric Generator (TEG) you can create an electric current. We decided it best to charge a battery on the stove itself so when you need extra charge – you have it to hand as a result of cooking. We needed the product to look technical yet practical. It had to represent camping and living outdoors. We loved the symbolism of the sign for 'camp fire' and replicated the three crossed logs as the legs which fold closed to house the canister.
Spencer managed to get three Dragons pitching for a stake in his business on Dragon's Den. He sold a stake to Peter Jones and through our connection in Asia we engineered the Teg Stove for manufacture. After receiving pre orders in major retailers nationally and significant interest globally Teg is now on the market.
