Better Sleep For You & Your Baby
The brief
Alan and Laurène Mosley came to us with an innovative idea: a Wi-Fi-enabled noise machine shaped like a sleepy sloth, designed to help babies sleep better.
Inspired by their own challenges in soothing their children to sleep, they wanted a solution that didn’t risk waking the baby. Unlike traditional noise machines, this device combines physical controls with a connected app, letting parents adjust sounds remotely from another room.
The machine offers personalized features like voice recordings, so parents can comfort their child with familiar sounds. It also includes a soft night light for added reassurance.
Alan and Laurène envisioned a design that was not only functional but also adorable. SleepaSloth delivers a comforting, playful look that appeals to both children and parents, making it a charming addition to any nursery.
The bang
Choosing the right external material was crucial to ensure softness, durability, and easy cleaning—perfect for nurseries. We selected rugged silicone for its ability to protect the product from drops and wear while offering a smooth, child-friendly texture. The material also allowed us to achieve the precise detailing needed for the multi-colored face design, though balancing softness with visual detail posed a unique challenge.
The arms were crafted to securely loop over cots or prams, using silent clasps that parents could easily operate. For added safety, we incorporated breakaway clasps that release under strain, preventing any risk of entanglement.
Integrating the electronics and software controls required rigorous testing and collaboration. We worked closely with engineers, the founders, and manufacturing partners during prototyping and component tooling to bring SleepaSloth to market successfully.
The result
SleepaSloth is a tactile, functional product designed to fit seamlessly on the side of a crib or pram, offering both practicality and charm.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign, SleepaSloth is now in production and available for online purchase. While the journey included some delays and refinements, the final product has been well worth the wait.
This innovative design blends cutting-edge technology, thoughtful craftsmanship, and real-world parenting needs.
